Fighting poverty and providing a future

Hände-05Hunger: the greatest enemy. If hungry it is hard to properly study at school, with no r strength nor hope, and often also afflicted by disease. TMICHA provides help making it possible for children to attend the Zvi Peres Chayes School despite their families’ financially problematic situation so that they can achieve a higher education and thus escape the poverty trap. While attending school pupils are also supplied with kosher food. The costs of the school meals can be covered by a scholarship. The importance of kosher and therefore healthy meals for the students must be stressed in this context. This can be seen not only as a key component of respecting their Jewish tradition and its integrity within the context of the Diaspora, but regular meals have also been scientifically proven to have a long-lasting effect on the learning capabilities and the later development of youths.

Hände-15Unfortunately ever so often people find themselves in temporary financial difficulties through blows of fate such as illness or accidents. Here Tmicha steps in offering “bridge money“ to relieve direst needs.

Hände-08Safeguarding your flat is a top priority whenever household money is in short supply whether as a result of unexpected expenditures, salary cuts, or sudden unemployment. This includes measures for preventing eviction such as rent subsidies, a one-off payment of rental arrears, and – for the homeless – all costs involved in renting accommodation. The heating cost allowance helps with heating and electricity bills as well as yearly bills. For people in dire straits we also offer modest basic supplies for the flat (appliances and furniture). We can also provide help with repairs and transport costs.

Hände-13Often people simply lack the financial means for purchasing clothes appropriate for the various seasons. Here again Tmicha provides money. Will TMICHA accept second-hand clothes? No, unfortunately this is not possible for reasons of costs. We neither have a warehouse nor the personnel required for organising the distribution system.

What else is important:

  • TMICHA cannot accept donations of food since the storage options are not available.
  • Because of cost considerations we cannot accept clothing. We neither have a warehouse nor the necessary staff who can organise the distribution system.
  • We reserve the right to inspect furniture as a principle before we accept or reject it. It is best to send us an email with a photo attachment in advance.

Since the houses of our clients are small and transport options are only available subject to additional costs, we generally accept small, portable amounts of goods donations or small, manageable pieces of furniture.

  • In general, the contact with our clients is so close and familiar that we can be quite specific on what is currently needed and what is not
